China National Pavilion Day Marked at Shanghai Expo

SHANGHAI, Oct. 1 (Xinhua)—At the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the celebration of National Pavilion Day for China of Shanghai Expo kicks off at the Expo Centre in Shanghai this morning. Wu Bangguo, chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attends the ceremony and delivers a speech.

Shanghai Expo marks the first such global event hosted by a developing country in the history of the World Expo. Over the past five months, participants from 246 countries and international organizations have gathered by the Huangpu River to attend the Expo, over 100 foreign leaders have visited the Expo Park, approximately 60 million visitors from across the world have experienced the Expo in Shanghai and more than 2 million dedicated volunteers from home and abroad have served at the Expo, staging a splendid chapter of “Better City, Better Life”.
