Unique Experiences

SOME UNIQUE OBSERVATIONS

When travelling to any country, families will experience new and different cultures which they may find curious.

When travelling to and within China, families will be exposed to the varying Chinese cultures from north to south and east to west.

People in the cities are very different to those in the countryside - in their mannerisms, outlook on life, lifestyle and even in their food. Every province has their speciality dishes and that carries through to the micro level.

And here's something Australian families may find different - the Chinese holiday habit of matching pyjamas on the beach. Pretty cute!

Multi-generational Chinese families holidaying together wearing matching pyjama-like apparel while on their beach holiday would intrigue most foreigners. Even the older generations are in theme with grand-parents colour matching their brood.

Also, you may notice that most Chinese would not dream of getting a tan as their impression of beauty is to stay fair.

So with maintianing fair skin being the goal, Chinese people will do many things to avoid the sun at peak hours of the day, which is from mid morning to mid afternoon.

So your family, with sunnies, hat and liberally applied sunscreen, may be the only ones on the beaches in full sunlight!

GO FOR A TYPICAL BANQUET

The culinary world of Mainland China is one of the many reasons to visit. It is one of the world’s greatest cuisines and varies greatly across the country.

From the spices of Szechuan to the more mild Cantonese you will find yourself constantly tempted to try the never-ending variety of restaurant and street food available.

Kids will feel completely happy nosily slurping noodles, picking up their rice bowls to shovel in the delicious grains and choosing the delicious steam buns with their fragrant doughy shells.

A multi course banquet is a must do, wherever you stay in China. These are most often served on round tables with a lazy susan in the centre. Course after course are served, often starting with cold dishes and often finishing with fresh fruit. Try not to fill up too early. Trying and tasting everything that is served is polite even if it doesn’t appeal.

Meat is a luxury item and there are many varied protein substitutes, from jellyfish to insects, so if you and your family have adventurous palates, you’re guaranteed to have an incredible time.

However, if you do have a fussy enter, bring a stock of breakfast bars with you for when all else fails. Most hotels have western food choices and supermarkets stock a range of imported items (at inflated prices).
